5 Tips for Start-up Success: By Guillermo Rotman, CEO for the Americas – Regus
Freelancers, entrepreneurs and independent professionals are a growing portion of today’s workforce, and given the current challenging job market, many professionals may be considering taking the entrepreneurial plunge for the first time. Here are some tips Regus feels can help professionals make the most of their entrepreneurial business venture.
1. Create A Plan: Set goals, determine where you want to be and the approach you will take to get there. This takes homework – be sure to learn your industry and the players inside and out – this will help identify your target audience, start-up costs and overall objectives. Putting it down on paper makes you accountable. And be ready to alter your plan as business conditions change.
2. Put Yourself Out There: Network, network, network. The key to entrepreneurial success is making you and your company known. Attend networking events and trade shows, use social media, create a blog demonstrating your expertise, and use sites like LinkedIn to build your network. Creating a website with testimonials, case studies and recent work will also provide proof points for potential business clients.
3. Establish A Routine: There is no one looking over your shoulder – it’s important to stay disciplined. Whether you work from home, an office or on the road, stick to a routine that works. Running a start-up and/or freelancing provides you with flexibility and freedom you may have never experienced, so make sure you have the mindset to properly handle it.
4. Equip Yourself: Make sure you have the physical tools to succeed. Beyond having industry expertise, you will need access to technology, a professional workspace and the right equipment to get the job done and done well. For some, a home could be distracting or isolating – take advantage of a flexible office provider and the administrative services they can offer.
5. Aggressively Build Your Brand: Be persistent, learn from your mistakes, and constantly market yourself and your services!
Guillermo – thanks so very much for visiting Women Entrepreneurs HQ!
I really appreciate the fact that you left a few great tips!
I’m very sure these will help a lot of entrepreneurs!
This is something that is done on a city basis. So, in order to find out each business that will be applying for business licenses, you would have to contact each and every city in the United States. This is because there is not a federal database–the federal government does not handle the issuance of business licenses, cities do.

Thanks Daniella for leaving another great and useful comment on Women Entrepreneurs HQ!
I am sure others can add a lot more but the first two things that come to mind for me are persistence and patience. Any venture you undertake is likely going to require a lot more work then you realize at the start and being persistent will keep you pushing your idea or business forward. Patience is a must as many people get discouraged when they try something new like running their own business and it isn’t an over night success, these things take time to build up.

All I want is appreciation. If my husband can say “thank you” for the things I do occasionally I am perfectly content. I think women with self esteem issues or have issues with abandonment would want to be worshipped. It makes them feel loved, wanted, and secure.
